Wetter than wet start to Summer

THUNDER storms, lots of rain and hot humid days align with our expectations of the Summer season in South East Queensland but following a raft of warnings from the Bureau of Meteorology, it seems we may be in line more of all three.

November certainly lived up to the forecasts with well above average through to near record falls for the last month of Spring.

Midway through December and rain and heat recorded so far are further proving the forecasts as fair warning.

All areas in the Moreton Border readership have already passed the 20 year average December rainfall mark, in fact, all bar the Franklyn Vale area have already received more than twice the average rainfall.

The total falls through to Tuesday morning, this week, were pushed higher by the records of the amounts which fell between Saturday and Tuesday mornings (9am to 9am).

Based on the Bureau’s rainfall measuring stations, we offer the following figures:

The weather station on the Rosewood Walloon Road recorded 96mm in the three days to Tuesday morning, bringing the total for the month so far to 249mm.

The average total fall for that area in December is around 106mm.

The Tallegalla rainfall station recorded 68mm in the three days to Tuesday morning, making a total for the month so far of 207mm.

The average total fall for that area in December is 101.5mm.

Amberley was a little drier, with 195mm in the three days to Tuesday with the December total reaching 195mm.

The average total fall for that area in December is 92.5mm.

Franklyn Vale recorded the lowest falls from Saturday to Tuesday mornings with 35.8mm and bringing the December total so far to 154mm.

The average total fall for that area in December is 84mm.
