TRANSPORT ministers were keen again last week to highlight their commitment to fixing local roads woes.
Federal Transport Minister Catherine King was flanked by the State Transport Minister, Bart Mellish, to announce a business case was underway to investigate options for either a grade separation, bypass or duplication of the highway at the Amberley intersection at Ipswich-Rosewood Road.
Federal Member for Blair Shayne Neumann was also in attendance along with Ipswich West Labor candidate Wendy Bourne.
Funding of $20 million is available for the Cunningham Highway and Ripley Road and Swanbank Road interchanges.
Mr Mellish said the Amberley intersection upgrade was “the highest priority on the Cunningham Highway”.
“Following community feedback, we recognise the need to focus on the long-term solution given growing demands in the area,” he said.
“The Ipswich-Rosewood Road (Amberley) intersection is a key connection for freight and the local community as well as servicing the main access point to Australia’s largest operational military air base at Amberley.
“Additionally, we know the Ripley Road and Swanbank Road exits are important interchanges for the community and an upgrade of these is a priority for government.”
The project is part of a broader $170 million investment in the Cunningham Highway.
