RESIDENTS who live along the train line may have noticed a steam train ‘riding’ the tracks on Friday.
The train signalled the Cobb & Co Festival in Yuleba, west of Miles, which ran through to Sunday.
The Festival celebrated the anniversary of Australia’s last horse-drawn mail coach service.
The QR BB18¼ steam train was on the tracks for the first time in 10 years and Festival goers were offered the opportunity to take a four hour round trip in the more than 100-year-old carriages on Sunday from Yuleba to Roma.
On arrival back in Yuleba, the train was met by a Cobb & Co horse drawn cart which proceeded to ‘deliver the mail’.
The steam train was powered by one of the Queensland-built BB18¼ Locomotives, fondly known as ‘Bety’.
For the more enthusiastic steam train lovers, there was also the chance to take a three day round trip from Toowoomba to Yuleba.
The trips were organised by the Australian Railway Historical Society in partnership with Queensland Rail.
