THE Cookery section of the Marburg Show experienced a significant bump in entry numbers last year and Chief Steward, Ann-Maree Frohloff is hoping to continue to build on the renewed interest.
A self-confessed ‘do a bit of baking’ cook, Ann-Maree says she will have entries in the section this year.
“You don’t have to be the best baker, just best on the day,” she adds.
“And you don’t have to enter the whole batch, just a few of the ones that look best.”
Ann-Maree says he kids love it when she’s baking for the Show.
“They get to eat the ones that aren’t good enough – and sometimes that means the whole batch, when I decide I will have to have another go.”
There’s lots of Cookery classes to enter – just look online on the Marburg Show website for the Cookery section schedule.
“Lots of kids entered last year, which was wonderful to see,” Ann-Maree reports. “We’re really hoping for the same response this year – getting the kids interested in entering any section of the Show is all about building towards the future.”
Judging for the section begins at 10am today (Friday) and with free entry at the gate, it’s a top opportunity to hear the judges’ comments – a case of listen and learn ahead of your entries next year.
The winning fruit cake at Marburg will be sent to compete in the West Moreton and Brisbane Valley sub Chamber rich fruit cake competition with the regional winner getting the chance to bake an entry for the Brisbane Ekka.
• Ann-Maree is also the Show President and when we spoke to her late last week, she was tallying up a list of jobs that had yet to be done before the two day Show and her myriad roles on the Saturday.
“We all help out.
“My jobs on the Saturday that I can think of at the moment include the Official Morning Tea and I run the pig races and I am hoping to help out at the bar and I really want to walk the grounds at some stage to see how everything is going.”
