I’m a Westside Scrambler

Initially I was a bit confused by the posters and promos for the Westside Scramble an event held at the Studio 188 each month.

The poster has freaky people wearing fried eggs which didn’t give me any indication as what the Westside Scramble was about. However, after further research I found out that this is actually a great place which gives both visual and performance artists a chance to have a platform to perform and experiment on stage to play, network and cultivate experience.

So, to fully experience this great initiative, I booked a slot to share about upcoming events to the other artists and audience.

I was allocated a 15 minutes slot and given tech support and assistance from Alicia Lopis who works for the Ipswich City Council. One of the best things about Westside Scramble is that it is free to showcase and free to enter.

Alicia has done a great job in creating this event in which I now realise is an informal space where local creatives, artists, community members, neighbours can gather, share ideas, make connections and collaborations.

It is a chance to exchange and expand on ideas, to start conversations.

It is a platform to perform and experiment on stage, to play and cultivate experience and to promote local artists, venues and exhibitions and festivals.

Also, you can just go along and enjoy, mix, network and have a drink with like-minded people. It’s an open-door policy, everyone is welcome to Scramble.

These events provide a great opportunity to network with your creative community and local industry

I’m now proud to say I’m a Westside Scrambler. To find out more about this free monthly event go to the Ipswich City Council website.

Ipswich Cambrian Choirs are champions

During the Easter long weekend the 129th Queensland Eisteddfod returned to Brisbane. It was held in the Queensland Conservatorium, Griffith University, at South Bank,

As defending champions the Blackstone-Ipswich Cambrian Choir had extra pressure added to the senior and youth choirs to step up to the challenge.

As usual, they did not disappoint, performing at an extremely high standard, against some new choirs along with traditional eisteddfod rivals.

Fortunately, both choirs prevailed with the Blackstone-Ipswich Cambrian Choir (senior choir) and the Cambrian Youth Choir winning their respective choral aggregates and therefore being awarded the 2024 Qld Eisteddfod Champion Choirs.

Congratulations to David Webster (senior choir conductor), Emma Hadfield (senior choir accompanist), Michelle French (youth choir conductor) and Bronwyn French (youth choir accompanist) and all choristers who performed over the Easter long weekend.
