THE Rosewood community united recently to celebrate International Women’s Day.
The day, celebrated on March 8 around the world this year, is designed to be a celebration of the social, economic, cultural, and political achievements of women.
Guest panellists who spoke at the Rosewood Community Centre were Queensland Fire and Rescue Rosewood firefighter Fleur Noll, Officer in Charge of the Ipswich District Crime Prevention Unit Sergeant Nadine Webster, and registered nurse Ruth Purdon, who works for a global mining company.
Community Centre Project Worker Tia Lancaster said the free morning event (held on March 12 to coincide with the Women’s Group weekly meeting) was filled with “information, connection and food”.
“More than 80 people came through the doors during the course of the morning,” Ms Lancaster said.
“They connected with stall holders (from organisations, advocates, and service providers), as well as the local community.
“The event was inspired by this year’s theme ‘Inspire Inclusion’ and was the perfect opportunity to explore women’s experiences in the workplace and to celebrate the achievements and contributions of local women who work in male-dominated environments.
“The women who sat before us willingly shared their time, stories, and experiences.”
Women’s group member Kerri said the event provided “a great morning out”.
“It is important to celebrate days like International Women’s Day,” she said.
“The forum was engaging, the food delicious and the information stalls helpful.
“I will be back next year.”
