ON A hill at Coleyville, a few weeks before Easter, three wooden crosses will be erected to remind everyone that more than 2,000 years ago, three men were also crucified on three crosses on a hill at Calvery.
“These three men were crucified on a cross for sins committed. Two for their own sins and the one in the middle – Jesus Christ was crucified for our sins,” says Norm Kerle, one of the organisers of the annual ecumenical Good Friday service.
The erection of the three crosses on the hill, which are underlit at night, are beacons reminding everyone of the church service and of the sacrifice Jesus Christ made on our behalf.
This year, the guest speakers at the church service will be Matthew and Kathryn Bolte.
“Matthew and Kathryn are a Ministry Partnership who for more than 30 years, have been involved in raising the level of prayer and church unity wherever the Lord has placed them,” Norm said.
“They were in Pastoral ministry from 1993 to 2014 in several Queensland churches – five years in Boonah and 16 years in Townsville.”
In 2014, the couple connected with the Australian Prayer Network (APN) and took up the voluntary role as Regional Co-ordinators for North Queensland while still in full-time pastoral ministry. Then for nine years they became full-time volunteers with the APN to help with the teaching of the Watchmen School of Intercession.
“Following their season of teaching for the APN they have developed their own teaching material on intercessory prayer and have begun to receive numerous invitations from churches around the nation,” Norm added.
He encouraged everyone to be part of the crowd at the Good Friday service.
“Our real blessing came when three days after Jesus Christ died on the cross for us, when He rose from the dead and conquered death to assure us of eternal life, if we care to follow Him and His directions.
“With this assurance and knowing that we can walk hand in hand with Him through our earthly trials, we can then cope with them more confidently, knowing that our God will not test us beyond our ability.
“This is the message that will be presented at our Good Friday service.”
It will be held on the hill at the corner of Eder Bros Road and the Rosewood-Warrill View Road, Coleyville.
“The service will be held under a very large tent and chairs are provided,” said Norm.
“Following the service people will be offered the opportunity to share in a cuppa or cold drink, Hot Cross buns and donuts.
“In the event of significant rain, the service will be held at the Harrisville School of Arts.”
A free bus will be running from Brassall Village, Cabanda Aged Care, Rosewood and the Rosewood Uniting Church.
