WITH days until nominations close on Tuesday (February 13) for the local government elections, Ipswich so far has one of the lowest turnouts of candidates seen in years.
As of Tuesday morning there were five candidates contesting the Mayoralty with Ken Salter adding his name to the contest.
The Redbank Plains rugby league identity ran for mayor in the 2017 election.
Mr Salter and Councillor Sheila Ireland were the only candidates to have nominated for the mayoralty as the Moreton Border News went to press. Mayor Teresa Harding is yet to nominate as are candidates who have announced their intention to run David Martin and Peter Robinson.
Both Division 1 and 2 will elect a new councillor at the March 16 election with Sheila Ireland running for Mayor and Kate Kunzelmann.
There are now four candidates running for the two councillor positions in Division 4: incumbent Russell Milligan, David Cullen, Susan Dunne and former Member for Ipswich West Jim Madden.
There are three candidates taking on incumbent Councillor Jacob Madsen in Division 1: Josh Addison, Simon Ingram and Pye Augustine.
In the 2020 election there were seven candidates for mayor, eight candidates in Division 1 and six in Division 4.
