Ron is the Rosewood Citizen of the Year

ROSEWOOD and District Support Centre volunteer Ronald White is the Rosewood Lions Citizen of the Year.

The annual Rosewood Lions Australia Day Awards event was held on Friday with congratulations going to all nominees from MC Lion Clyde Nicoll. The other nominees were Gaylene Slack, Jodi Bowman and Sue Skelton.

Ron was nominated for the award by members of the Rosewood and District Support Centre.

He began volunteering at the Centre in November 2013 and prior to that date he was instrumental in the initial conversations regarding opening a Men’s Work Shed in Rosewood.

As a result of Ron’s conversation, the program which is now known as the Rosewood Men’s Workshop began and has been successful for more than 11 years.

In 2013, Ron also began volunteering in the role of a Medilink driver for the community centre, providing non-emergency transport to and from Brisbane for seniors living in Rosewood and surrounding areas.

Furthering his desire to help others, in 2014, Ron trained as a Commissioner for Declarations, and in 2021, he trained as a Justice of the Peace.

As a Commissioner for Declarations, Ron was actively involved in establishing the JP Signing Support Services at the centre.

In the last five years, Ron has utilised his computer skills to collate the quarterly statistics for the centre, and has also done volunteer work for the Rosewood Women’s Group and the Rosewood Seniors Luncheons.

He is also often called upon by the social worker at the Ipswich Hospital to perform JP services to families and individuals who are ill, or who are admitted to hospital for an operation or a procedure.
