Lease secured for Marburg residents group

MARBURG and District Residents’ Association’s lease over Community Park at 108 Queen Street has been renewed by Council.

The lease, approved by unanimous vote of the council, is for an initial term of five years with a rent of $1 if demanded by the council.

The association has occupied the site since 2012 for a storage facility.

The group was established in 1975, formed by a group of residents with a vision to improve the lives of residents. Members have continually delivered successful community initiatives such as raising funds to assist individuals during times of hardship, the Street Library and runs activities such as Tai Chi, pilates, yoga and art classes.

The group showcases and preserves historical items such as its horse drawn sulky and fibreglass horse.

Earlier last year, the Marburg and District Residents’ Association was named as the Community Group of the Year at the Ipswich City Council Australia Day Awards and in 2008 received the Friendliest Town Award.
