Rosewood Lions Citizen of the Year nominee Ronald White

ROSEWOOD and District Support Centre volunteer Ronald White has been nominated for the 2024 Rosewood Lions Citizen of the Year Award.

He was nominated for the award by members of the Rosewood and District Support Centre and is described as an active and highly valued volunteer of the centre.

In November 2013, Ron commenced his work with the centre and prior to this was instrumental in the initial conversations regarding opening a Men’s Work Shed in Rosewood.

As a result of Ron’s conversation, the program which is now known as the Rosewood Men’s Workshop commenced and has been a successful for more than 11 years.

In 2013, Ron also began volunteering in the role of a Medilink driver for the community centre, providing non-emergency transport to and from Brisbane for seniors living in Rosewood and surrounding areas.

Furthering his desire to help others, in 2014 Ron undertook training to become a Commissioner for Declarations, and undertook further training to upskill to a Justice of the Peace in 2021.

As a Commissioner for Declaration, Ron was actively involved in establishing the JP Signing Support Services at the community centre.

Described as a man with a strong focus to detail, Ron also supports individuals to prepare their Advance Health Directive and Enduring Power of Attorney documents.

Over the past five years Ron has utilised his computer skills to collate the quarterly statistics for the centre, and has supported the Rosewood Women’s Group by volunteering to complete the group’s petty cash data entry and reconciliation each month.

Ron has also volunteered at the Rosewood Seniors Luncheons and is often called upon by the social worker at the Ipswich Hospital to perform JP services to families and individuals who are ill, or who are admitted to hospital for an operation or a procedure.
