THE Rosewood Bowls Club was the latest victim of theft, with thousands of dollar’s worth of fencing stolen from the club grounds between October 14 to October 26.
The fencing was in place around a dam at the back of the clubhouse, and it served a purpose not just as a boundary line, but also as a safety barrier.
Club President Terry Hobden said 21 fencing panels were stolen.
“Members of the Bowls Club volunteered their time a couple of years ago to install the fencing and they took time and care in ensuring the fencing was properly installed by securing the fencing panels to the poles with screws and bolts,” he said.
“This method kept the fencing upright and very secure, so I believe that whoever took the panels had to have taken some time to remove them.
“Black in colour, the fencing was aluminium, just like pool fencing, the panels were strong and quite heavy and they served a major purpose of keeping children and families out of the dam area.
“The water in the dam is quite deep and the edges of the dam are slippery and steep, so it would only take one slight accident now without the fencing in place to really have a big problem.”
Mr Hobden voiced his frustration with the thief or thieves.
“These people do not realise the risk that they have established, and now we will have to work out the next steps to keep families safe around the dam area, when they visit our club.”
The incident has been reported to the police and members of the Club are keeping a closer eye on the club house and also the grounds.
“I have faith in the police, but I would really like to ask anyone who may have seen anything suspicious at the Bowls Club between October 14 to October 26 to please let either the police or me know,” he said.
“I also hope that the people who are responsible for stealing our property realise the stress and now danger for families that they have caused.
“As a community we deserve better and this sort or negative behaviour needs to stop.”
