Pot Holes and Patches lead to damage on car

LAST month, Kathy Crawford was driving on Arthur Street, Rosewood on her way home when she hit a pothole.

Arthur Street connects the town’s main street to Matthew Street and is used by locals on a daily basis.

Currently it is also known as ‘Patches Lane’ due to the number of patches that now make up the road.

Kathy was on her way home from shopping in John Street when she hit the pothole and heard a ‘big bang’.

“I noticed that my car tyre was flat and all around me were patches and one big pothole that I had run over,” she said.

“After changing the flat and damaged tyre, I began thinking about how annoyed I was at the state of the road, and to be honest not just Arthur Street, but the state of many roads within the Rosewood area.”

Frustrated at the situation Kathy expressed her views to other residents in Rosewood, who she said just looked at her and referred to Arthur Street as ‘Patches Lane’.

“I was a little taken back at how many other people say that this road is a mess, and the number of patches in my opinion suits the name ‘Patches Lane’,” she said.

“These patches are an example in my opinion of a quick fix on a road which is one of the main streets into the shopping centre.

“Not only is this a problem in regards to damage on cars, but it looks an absolute mess.”

The Moreton Border News contacted the Ipswich City Council about the concerns on Arthur Street and the following response was received.

Deputy Mayor and Division 4 Councillor Russell Milligan said that in response to community concerns about the condition of Arthur Street, council earlier this month undertook repair works, including filling some potholes.

“Council will continue to monitor the road’s condition and undertake maintenance work as required.”
