For more than twenty years Rosewood Residents Chrissie and John Turner have been supplied with fresh Choko, their favourite vegetable by long-time friends from Tallegalla.
John said that a few years ago their own faithful old choko vine called it a day, so they arranged for a replacement vine courtesy of friends from Marburg.
“After taking a little while to establish itself, the vine has really taken off, and the recently picked fruit compared in size to a one-kilogram margarine container, being one of many similar sized fruit produced from the vine,” he said.
“You would be forgiven for thinking that fruit of this size with a weight of 900 grams, would have been dry and woody but I can confirm that it tasted delicious when steamed with the skin on.
“Which I maintain is the only way to cook the vegetable.”
