Works to commence on Adelong Avenue, Thagoona in early 2024

A culvert replacement on Adelong Avenue, Thagoona is scheduled to take place in early 2024 by Ipswich City Council, with a total cost estimated to be $1 million dollars.

Works required for the reconstruction of this drainage culvert include removing all of the existing drainage structure and the road.

Construction of a concrete base slab, installation of box culverts, construction of concrete culvert wingwalls, reconstruction of the road over the culvert and installation of guide posts and line-marking where required will take place.

Deputy Mayor Division 4 Councillor Russell Milligan said that as part of an Ipswich City Council routine condition assessment, the existing culvert crossing has been identified as being in poor condition and will be replaced with a new culvert.

“The new structure will benefit residents, reduce maintenance costs and ensure local street connectivity, mobility and safety is in place for road users,” he said.

Division 4 Councillor Kate Kunzelmann added that the council’s current Capital Works Program also identifies road reconstruction works for Adelong Avenue.

“Additional road works will also take place from Thagoona Haigslea Road through to Cummins Road, Thagoona,” she said.

“These works are currently identified to commence in early to mid-2025, subject to budget approval.

“Early works associated with having the culvert completed on Adelong Avenue will allow a more efficient construction method to be used and will reduce disruption to the community when these additional works get underway.

“To minimise disruption to the community, council intends to implement a road closure either side of the project site area, with only a short detour as a result as council believes this is the best delivery strategy.”
