Hooning investigations

Rosewood Police are targeting hooning behaviours in the Rosewood area due to an increase in traffic complaints of dangerous driving.

On June 16, Rosewood Police issued a Lower Mount Walker man, 18, with a notice to appear for the offence of creating unnecessary noise or smoke. The incident relates to allegations that the man performed burnouts on a roadway in Ebenezer on May 19. Several other vehicles were observed at the location and investigations are continuing. Further arrests are likely.

During the month of June, so far Rosewood Police and the Highway Patrol have had cause to issue more than 80 infringement notices and Notices to Appear in court for persons driving within the Rosewood division. The alleged offences range from speeding, unlicensed driving, drink driving and drug driving.

Operation Cold Snap will continue over the winter school holidays to keep the community safe.

Fatal traffic crash

On June 22, Rosewood Police and other emergency services were called to a two vehicle traffic crash on the Ipswich Rosewood Road near the Seven Mile Bridge.

Initial investigations suggest that a utility travelling towards Rosewood, crossed into the path of an Ipswich bound vehicle causing the collision. The driver of the utility, a Laidley man, 82, suffered significant injuries and despite the efforts of the emergency services, he could not be revived and passed away at the scene.

In court

On June 23, Rosewood Police issued a Rosewood man, 38, with a Notice to Appear for stealing and a series of frauds. Police will allege that after a victim lost his wallet outside Drakes Supermarket that the man came into possession of the victims’ credit card and used it at several local businesses fraudulently. The man is set to appear in the Ipswich Magistrates Court on July 21.
