Art, craft and lots of talent on show

THE displays in the main pavilion are always worth a visit.

A large number of sections are showcased there including food and cookery, fine arts, photography, scrap booking, haberdashery, spinning and weaving, the aged person section and Lego.

Mary Harm is the Chief Steward of the food and cookery, scrapbooking and Lego sections. She describes her role as an “honour, that brings her much joy to see the entries”.

“I have held the role as Chief Steward for many years and each year there is always something different to see and enjoy,” she said.

“We are looking forward to seeing many entries from the younger generation, due to the Show falling in the middle of the show holidays.

“Children can enter into any section, and we enjoy seeing decorated Arrowroot biscuits, decorated patty cakes and chocolate slice, which is all in the younger section.

“Lego is also amazing to see, as it is a great way to demonstrate creativity and inspired creations of all sizes and themes.

“Also, for children who have a green thumb, the horticulture and produce sections are great to enter home grown produce and beautifully arranged plants and flowers.”

The Dark Rich Fruit Cake competition, sponsored by the Queensland Country Women’s Association, Rosewood branch, can take the entrant beyond the bounds of Rosewood.

“Baking a champion cake is an art all on its own, and there are many talented people who always do this section proud,” Mary said.

“Competitors who win the Dark Rick Fruit Cake competition at this year’s show, will be given the opportunity to represent the Society at the Sub Chamber Final judging.”

In the Fine Arts section Chief Steward Lynda Collins is looking forward to seeing all of the stands be brought to life with paintings, portraits, drawings – artwork, in all kinds of mediums.

“Local man Barry Gratton will be our judge and we are looking forward to seeing all of the local talent that will be on display.

“Fine art is everything from abstract and landscape through to flora, fauna and still life, and this year the theme for the children’s section, is ‘My Favourite Holiday Activity’.”

The pavilion will also house stalls and interactive tables where families can stop for a chat to learn about what is happening in the community, while enjoying free information giveaways.
