MEMBERS from Invictus Australia visited the Rosewood Bowls Club on Sunday, to enjoy a social game of bowls and a barbeque lunch and to promote physical, social and emotional aspects to veterans and their families.
Prince Harry Duke of Sussex founded the Invictus Games which is all about supporting the dedication of men and women who have served their countries and who have been confronted with hardship, but have refused to be defined by injury.
Invictus Australia Veteran Engagement Specialist for the South East Region Justine Lugg said this was the first event for the year, and that Rosewood “sure did turn on good weather on the day”.
“The sun was out and we could not have wished for better weather that provided the perfect day for all of our veterans and their families,” she said.
“Throughout the year, we provide an array of activities and events all organised with grassroots sporting groups throughout the Toowoomba, Ipswich and Brisbane areas to run sports events for our veterans and their families.
“This provides a social and friendly outlet to our veteran community, that brings with it laughter and fun conversation whilst getting active.
“I really enjoy delivering a range of activities and events, to support and encourage our defence community, through the power of sport.
“This support delivers in many aspects from participating in sport just for fun, to competing on a competitive level or through participation for recovery and rehabilitation, whatever the need is, we are there to help.”
To provide support on the day Regional Bowls Manager at Bowls Australia Micheal Sorrensen worked with local club members to share tips and advice about lawn bowls with the visitors.
The game on the green was accompanied with a lunch prepared by Club volunteers and cold drinks were enjoyed from behind the bar.
