Sunflower sunset soiree to go off with a bang

ENJOY fireworks, music, sunflowers and street food under millions of stars at an Evening in the Sunflowers in Mount Walker at the end of this month.

The annual event has brought hundreds of sunflower enthusiasts to the farm owned by Norm and Sandra Kerle.

“We now have over 100 acres [40 hectares] of sunflowers planted,” said Norm Kerle.

“Around 40 acres [16 hectares] are finished flowering and drying down, the other 68-odd acres [27 hectares] are in four different stages.

“Eight acres [3 hectares] are just coming into flower now and there are a fair few flowers on them and they wrap right around the stage where we are having the concert.”

Live country and western music will be performed on the stage and everyone is invited to dance under the stars

“We have seven food vans booked and these will provide everything from coffee to hamburgers, pizzas, pies and ice-cream,” he said.

“People can come at 5pm, have a good feed and walk through the sunflowers.”

He said there was a resident photographer who could take professional photographs if needed, but people were welcome to take their own too.

“We’ve also got three acres [1 hectare] of olives where the concert will be,” he said.

“In that olive patch we’ve got an open air chapel.”

He said entry to an Evening in the Sunflowers cost up to $50 a person, with prices cheaper for families with children.

“Fifty bucks gets them in the gate and then they can buy whatever feed they want, enjoy the concert and watch fireworks,” he said.

Tickets are available online and at the gate on the night.
