Poetry Corner – I’m On My Way

New hat, new bag, new shoes,

Isn’t this exciting.

I am starting school today,

My lunch is packed, I’m on my way!

All of my friends from preschool will be there!

And I will probably meet new ones,

Who will come from I don’t know where!

Is my name tag on, right?

My shoes feel different, a little bit tight.

Mum has started crying

I don’t know why?

She was okay, until I said goodbye!

Look, that child’s name is the same as mine!

Here we go, we must stand in line.

I wonder what I will learn today?

I can write my name and count to twenty,

That should be a good start,

What else is there.

I’m sure there is plenty!

New hat, new bag, new shoes,

The start of what could be,

The school yard blues.
