A RECORD number of Alumni students were enrolled this year at West Moreton Anglican College.
The 13 Alumni students (known fondly as WeeMacs) are the children of former WestMac graduates or students.
Colleen and Tim Evans, who are both Alumni, said they enjoyed their educational and extra-curricular experiences at WestMac and were keen to explore the college’s offerings when their children were born.
“We had a wide range of experiences and opportunities and we want our children to be exposed to be part of such programs including the outdoor educational opportunities,’’ Tim said.
“I was able to join all different bands and a number of sports team, and there is an on-campus farm which was always exciting to visit, these opportunities are now available to our children, which is fantastic.
“Our daughter Virginia was looking forward to playing on the playground and was excited to put on her uniform and shoes and to be dressed, as she said just like a grown-up Prep girl.”
Aaron Mitchell is also an Alumni. He said his daughter Charlotte was looking forward to the weekly music lessons and joining the performing arts programs just like her older sister Eva, who is going into Year 3.
“To be able to have my children go to the same school that I went to is very exciting and as a foundation student we set the tone of the college’s culture, which was cool, and now it has been great to re-ignite my relationship with the school as a parent,” he said.
Principal Geoff McLay said he was pleased so many College Alumni wanted to continue their experience, to give their children the values, culture, and opportunities they enjoyed themselves as students.
“WestMac will celebrate its 30th birthday this year and the college is now at a point where we are seeing the next generations coming through, it is great to see our college’s strong community legacy continuing.”
Head of Junior School Kirsten Mullan, is a 29-year WestMac foundation teacher who has been excited to welcome back a record number of families, as she has fond memories of many of the parents of the new WeeMac Preps.
“I remember when many of these parents were students in Junior School, so it is an honour and joy to have the responsibility of nurturing and developing the potential for individual excellence in these second generation of students now attending.”
