MORE than 400,000 lights are just one of the features of the Beattie family’s Christmas display at Glamorganvale and it is stunning.
And it is attracting many admirers.
Geoff Beattie and his family’s Christmas creativity is renowned but there’s been a two year hiatus.
It’s a break that has given the family extra impetus this year to set up a display that’s even more impressive.
And if you drive out to Glamorganvale it’s impossible to miss the light spectacular and the collection of scenes, ornaments and Christmas characters that are all placed in a fun and interactive way.
“I am very confident from last time we counted the lights that there is over 400,000 lights and each year we set them up in sections and take the time to pack them up neatly, store them in a box and label them to avoid any unwanted knots,” he said.
“We do not enter any competitions but we do raise money for the Leukemia Foundation which is a cause that means a lot to our family.
“We also make homemade Christmas puddings and goodies.”
One of the biggest talking points when families visit the display is the shed that is full of special ornaments.
When the Moreton Border News called in to talk to Geoff about the display, we met Brisbane visitor, John Kompenhans who said that he was taken back to his childhood the moment he stepped out of his car.
“I had heard of the Beattie family’s display through a friend so I thought that I would take the drive out to see it for myself,” John said.
“I was absolutely shocked to see what I would say is by far one of the biggest and brightest Christmas displays that I have ever seen.
“From walking through the shed that is full of little ornaments and nativity displays to walking through the gardens that are all lit up in hundreds of different ways to then meeting the family … the whole experience is magical.”
Geoff said that the busiest time with visitors to their home is by far the week leading up to Christmas.
“Christmas Eve is the highlight and the busiest time of all,” he said with a smile.
“This is a long time family tradition and it is something that means so much to us.
“We thank all of the families who come to visit us and we wish everyone a safe, happy and Merry Christmas.”
