Flicking the switch, Rosewood lights up for Christmas

SIX white Boomers are in residence in a front yard in John Street Rosewood, ready to take families on a journey through a magical light display in the lead up to Christmas.

The house full of festivity is the home of Ian Murray and his family who have been involved in lighting up their residence for many years.

Ian said that his inspiration came from his parents who each year also decorated their family home with the aim of bringing families together for Christmas.

“My parents decorated their home for over 20 years and I hold onto many fond memories assisting them to bring all of their plans to life,” he said.

“They won many competitions and met so many families through taking part in this annual light set up and this inspired me to follow in their footsteps.

“Our Christmas wonderland this year showcases some new additions which include six white boomers and a projector to play movies, which is really exciting.”

The joy of seeing so many faces light up when the lights are turned on is what makes all of the hard work worth it says Ian.

And there’s lots of long hours of work before the switch can be ‘flicked’.

“In the lead up to December I am busy working out what lights and figures would work best in certain areas of the front yard, because it is important to make the display as interactive for families as possible,” he said.

“Children really enjoy getting up close to the display, so it is important to make it safe, fun and interesting and I also enjoying making my own figures and characters which are also part of the display.”

Ian and his family encourage all families to visit their home and a special visit from Santa will also take place on Saturday (December 10).
