Remembering Nigel Marshall at the Bowls Carnival

THE Rosewood Bowls green was full last weekend as bowlers travelled to compete in the Rosewood Men’s Bowls Carnival.

A special moment at the Carnival when a one-minute silence was taken to remember the late Nigel Marshall.

The men’s carnival is an annual event that attracts avid bowlers from places such as Brisbane, Ipswich, Chinchilla and Nimbin to compete against Rosewood teams for the men’s carnival title.

Club President Terry Hobden welcomed everyone to the club before the one-minute silence was held to remember the late Nigel Marshall who was a Rosewood resident and a respected Club member.

Nigel was involved in the club for more than 10 years and held many positions on the Club Board, such as President and Secretary.

He also volunteered his time to the club in many others ways.

Nigel passed away on October 13, this year however his legacy lives on at the Club through his wife Lorraine, his son Raymond, his daughter Joanne and his grandson Chris who all play bowls.

Raymond said that it meant a lot to him and the family that the club acknowledged Nigel, who they say was a respected man who enjoyed his bowls and the comradery with his mates along the way.

“Dad enjoyed his time at the club and he got things done. It is is hard to play today [at the Carnival] because this is the first time, I do not have Dad’s voice in the background encouraging me, but his memory does live on,” he said.

The men’s carnival has been running for more than 20 years and is one of the busiest events on the club’s calendar.

During the two day men’s carnival, bowlers compete in five games of 15 ends.

On Saturday night, the bowlers were entertained by local musician Dennis Russell, danced and an array of delicious food prepared and served by the Rosewood club members.

Through a close and exciting weekend of bowls and entertainment the men’s carnival title was won by team, V McDonald, N Seawright, A McDonald and K Flint.
