SELECTED students from St Brigid’s Catholic Primary School competed in the 2022 Catholic Schools Swimming Carnival Cup at the Lockyer Valley Aquatics Centre last Friday
Students competing also came from Immaculate Heart, St Marys, St Joseph, St Augustine’s College and others Catholic schools within the area.
To be selected to compete in this event students had to qualify from their individual results that they achieved at their recent individual schools swimming carnival.
Throughout the Swimming Carnival the swimmers competed enthusiastically in 25 metre and 50 metre freestyle, backstroke, breaststroke and butterfly.
The race of the day was the 100 metre freestyle event that featured the fastest 10 female and male swimmers from each school.
From start to finish, the spectators were on their feet cheering on their school representative from the side line.
Grade 6 student Tahnee Sparke brought home the gold for St Brigid’s.
School staff and students encouraged all swimmers from the side line and congratulated them with team spirit and encouragement as for some students this was their first time racing in a 50 metre pool.
St Brigid’s Principal Duane Wann said it was “great to see the students have a go in the pool, as this was a fantastic experience for all students”.
“Congratulations to all of the students who represented the school, this was a special and engaging event to conclude the catholic schools swimming program for the year.”
