New rules for personal mobility devices, E-scooters and E-skateboards:

On Tuesday, new rules and increased fines for e-scooters and other personal mobility devices such as e-skateboards came into force.

Rosewood Police OIC, Sgt Travis Ehrich said these devices were a fantastic way to get around, however there are some rules that must be followed to keep everyone safe.

“The change include reduced speed limits of 12 kilometres per hour on footpaths and shared paths. With the existing 25 kilometre per hour limit retained on other infrastructure such as bike paths, lanes and local streets.

“Speed over the set limits will attract new fines from $143 to $575.

“Other fine increases include hand held mobile phone use (a fine of $1,078) and driving on prohibited roads (a fine of $172).

“The campaign also aims to raise awareness about helmet use with fines of $143 and doubling of $143 where appropriate.

“Further rules about parking and drink riding are being considered and will be announced in the new year.”
