SOME history has surfaced following the announcement of the closure of the National Bank in Rosewood.
The bank opened 121 years ago and Rosewood History Group Convenor David Pahlke says he would be interested in gaining any information about the people who signed their names on the inside of the original bank safe.
The National Bank opened in 1901 in Rosewood, it permanently closed its doors and the automated teller machine was decommissioned on Thursday, November 3.
When it opened, the bank was situated in the building where the Rosewood Country Women’s Association now operates, and the original bank safe is still in this building where numerous names are signed on the inside of the safe door.
David said he has known about the signatures on the safe door for some time, and he would like to see if there are any families connected to these people.
“All over the safe door are names and dates going back to 1938.
“I don’t recognise any of the names myself, but there is a possibility that some of the people are still alive today.
“There is just so much important history here and it would be great to link it to the families who once worked or were associated with the bank.”
