Thanksgiving in the Mt Walker olive grove

FAMILIES are invited to join the Rosewood and District Lutheran Parish in a thanksgiving ceremony in the Kerle family’s Mt Walker olive grove.

The Service, led by Pastor Andrew Schulz, will be held on Sunday, October 30 and will be followed by lunch.

The man who planted the olive grove, Norme Kerle, said the idea for the service resulted from a discussion about his memories of the devastating time of drought that the area suffered three years ago.

“During that time, some of the surrounding churches brought everyone together to share prayers for rain, however when it rained the churches did not have a combined thanksgiving service,” he said.

“Thanksgiving was undoubtedly shared with parishioners within their own churches, but we now need to all come together to say thanks to God for blessing us with the rain that we have received.

“I am aware of some families who are uncomfortable about going inside the four walls of a church, so this is an outdoor country setting where we can all come together to share blessings, praise, friendship and a lunch.”

Chairs will be provided and set out in the cool of the olive grove.

“Everyone is welcome to attend,” Norm said.

“We just encourage families to bring a plate of food to share, and a donation of non-perishable food items that will be placed at the altar as a thanks offering that will later be given to the Rosewood Community Centre.”

Pastor Andrew Schulz said the service was being held to “thank God for all of the good things that he provides us”.

“For he is good and his love endures forever and giving thanks for all of our blessings is great for the soul and good for the heart.”
