NATIVE plants, bush tucker and all things environmental will be showcased at this year’s Rosewood Native Plant Sale and Enviro Day on Saturday, October 15, at the Rosewood Showgrounds.
Co-ordinator Heather Knowles said the event is hosted by Native Plants Queensland, Ipswich Branch and it is guaranteed to have something for everyone.
“This year we have live demonstrations and information stands hosted by Bat Rescue, the Botanical Artists Society of Queensland, the Bush Food Association, the Ipswich Koala Protection Society, Birds Queensland and the Ipswich City Council,” she said.
“Also, for the first time this year we are introducing two new groups, the Spinners and Dyers who recycle native plant material to create and make things out of material and wool and the Wirrinyah Conservation Services who work with land owners to conserve our native species and environment.
“All of the groups on the day share information on how to grow and maintain native plants in people’s homes, gardens and landscapes, to attract birds, insects and butterflies.”
The native plants will be available in sizes ranging from tube stock to established trees. Among these will be bush tucker species.
“Families are starting to become more educated about native bush food, and on the day, we will have experts in this field available for any advice or questions that people may have,” she said.
“I am also encouraging anyone with identification questions about trees that they may have at home, to bring a branch or sample on the day so that our experts can assist with information.
“This day is an interactive experience amongst a chance to purchase rare and interesting plants to add to your garden.
“Native cycads which are commonly known as dinosaur plants will be for sale among all kinds of ground covers, shrubs, trees, bush tucker and flowering plants, to add to the local flora and fauna species.
“The Rosewood Community Centre will be serving food, Birdlife Queensland are hosting a colouring in competition and numerous prizes are to be won through a giant raffle.
“With free entry, this sale guarantees a fun and friendly day out, where I am sure families will leave learning something new and exciting about native plants, our environment and of course the wildlife that thrive from local fauna and flora species.”
