Rosewood Bowls Club history on display

RECORD and minute books from the first public meeting to do with the Rosewood Bowls Club are among the memorabilia now on display at the Rosewood Bowls Club.

Club member, Dudley Eckert, came across the record and minute books dating back to 1948 and informed President Terry Hobden and Rosewood Lion and Convenor of the Rosewood History Group David Pahlke of his find.

David said he was surprised when he saw the books and pleased that he was contacted.

“Records like this need to be on display for all to see, as they are an important trail to see how a club like the Bowls Club was established,” he said.

“As a member of Lions, I liaised with the Lions members to see how we could assist and the Lions decided to purchase a display cabinet for the books and other memorabilia to be stored in.

“This is a combined effort and a great outcome for the Bowls Club and also for the families of the original founding members of this club.

“I hope that others get a sense of satisfaction looking at the items just like I do.”

Bowls Club President Terry Hobden said that the display was made possible due to the generosity of the Rosewood Lions and he is thankful for their support.

“Many families would be able to look at the records and relate to someone that they have heard of, or someone that they know,” he said.

“There are many iconic names to the area, all who had a keen interest in establishing a bowls club in Rosewood all those years ago, and as a club now is it great to have this on display for all to see.”
