The Haigslea State School community celebrated NAIDOC Week in an assembly led by school Captains Logan and Heidi.
School Principal Andrew Sellick said that First Nations man of the Yuggera and Ugarapul Peoples John Parsons was the school’s special guest on the day.
“John spoke about his connection to country, shared his knowledge, passions and beliefs and played the didgeridoo using Australian animal sounds,” he said.
“Students were engaged while John discussed the meanings of the Australian, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander flags.
“NAIDOC Week has been a great opportunity to discuss and learn about Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander perspectives in our classrooms.
“It is important to show our community that we value the importance of Australia’s First Nations peoples as well as their personal histories, beliefs, values, languages and lifestyles.”
