FIVE timber planter boxes are to become part of the main street streetscape in Rosewood.
The stained timber boxes, the installation and the plantings will cost $25,000 and will be funded through the Ipswich City Council’s urban greening program.
The money has been allocated in the 2022-2023 Council Budget.
Cr Kate Kunzelmann said the location of the planting boxes had yet to be determined.
“The planter boxes will be similar to those recently installed in Bell Street, Ipswich and the boxes will be filled with drought-tolerant, brightly coloured species, ready for the spring.”
Finding the right place for the boxes will be guided by where they won’t hinder parked vehicles or pedestrians, according to Cr Russell Milligan.
“Council will consult with business owners about appropriate sites, prior to installation, the boxes will be aesthetically pleasing and will liven the concrete walkways with urban greening.”
The planter boxes will be constructed by students of Ipswich State High School’s Trade Training Centre.
Cr Milligan anticipates that the boxes will be in place by September.
