Operation Zero
During July, Police from the Ipswich District will be participating in Operation Zero to combat the road toll currently in South East Queensland.
Rosewood OIC, Sgt Travis Ehrich said drivers could expect to be breath tested and if found to be committing traffic offences then they would face hefty fines.
“In addition, the Queensland State Government has revised several traffic infringement penalties to reflect the seriousness of life-endangering offences, please be careful and make it home safe each day,” he said.
Infringement Penalties include:
• 1-10km/hr – $287 and 1 demerit point.
• 11-20km/hr – $431 and 3 demerit points.
• 21-30km/hr – $646 and 4 demerit points.
• 31-40km/hr – $1078 and 6 demerit points.
• More than 40km/hr – $1653 + 8 demerit points and automatic 6-month licence suspension.
Knife-wielding Rosewood man on multiple charges
On July 2, Rosewood Police responded to reports of a male armed with a knife causing a disturbance and stealing from the Rising Sun Hotel.
Police arrested a man in Mill Street, Rosewood soon after and will allege that upon arrest he struck a Police officer with a glass bottle before spitting on him and biting the officer.
As a result of the struggle, three Rosewood officers sustained minor injuries.
Police successfully subdued the man and transported him to the Ipswich Watchhouse.
The Rosewood man, 45, was charged with wilful damage to the Rising Sun bar and police vehicle, stealing, possession of a knife in public, possessing drugs and serious assault.
He was refused bail and appeared in the Ipswich Magistrates Court on July 4.
