Rebels Boxing set to pack a punch

REBELS Boxing Club will be hosting the Ipswich Regional Championships at the Ipswich Showgrounds Events Centre.

It’s an event that’s guaranteed to pack a punch, keeping spectators on the edge of their seats says Rebels Boxing Club owner and manager Robbie Sbeghen.

“The Champion belts are ready and all of the top boxing clubs from all over the country will be competing on the night,” he said.

“We already have eight of our own athletes fighting and are expecting our biggest card yet.

“It’s an event that will be jam packed with more than 20 fights to keep the crowd entertained.”

Robbie spoke of a “real buzz of excitement” in the Rebels gym.

“All the preparations for this big event are going very well.

“We have some really great up and coming fighters ready to take to the ring, including Middleweight Noah Wintringham and Welterweights Andreas Rice and Kade Malcolm.

“They will get to fight in front of a home crowd for the first time and this will be a great hit-out for the athletes before going to the Golden Gloves event and the Australian Titles.”

The club has recently been successful with two of their fighters Joe Bennett and Livai Savuro taking home the Gold title at State level. It’s the first time the club has achieved two state winners in the same year.

“Sparks always fly when Elite boxer and Serviceman Chris Bourke gets in the ring. He’s flown up from Adelaide to compete in the Super Heavyweight Category and will be on the main card,” Robbie said.

“Our Elite fighters Kayne Tate and Jesse Jenner will return after a long break from the ring.

“The last time Jesse fought in front of a home crowd, he knocked out the reigning Australian Champion.

“The stakes will be just as high this time with championship belts up for grabs.”

The event is sanctioned by Boxing Australia, which is the main governing body for Olympic Boxing.

Robbie says he is grateful for all of his supporters and all funds raised on the day will go towards supporting his not-for-profit club.
