Low cost road trial gets the ‘tick’ from nearby resident

A ROAD treatment with the potential to reduce dust and maintenance costs for suitable gravel roads, while also potentially providing a cost-effective way to create more reliable local road infrastructure is now complete on Hodgsons Road in Walloon.

Walloon resident Paul Wendt has declared the road treatment a success.

He has lived on Hodgsons Road for 23 years and says this was the first time that major work has taken place on the road.

“This road has been known for many years as dusty and dangerous, and when there is a significant amount of rain the surface becomes very boggy,” he said.

“There are at least 15 residents who live on this road, and at times it can be quite busy, over the years there have been community meetings regarding our concerns and I felt that the previous Councillor and Ipswich City Council just left us behind.

“This time though when we met with the new Councillors of Division 4 and in particular Cr Russell Milligan, I felt like our voice was heard and he sure did take the time to listen to our concerns, and now the work is complete.”

Mr Wendt also expressed his concern about the dust from the road that came into his house before the work was done, saying that it was a real health concern for many years.

“Before this work was complete, the dust would blow straight into our home, clogging up the gutters, contaminating our tanks and causing damage to our cars,” he said.

“So now it is a huge relief knowing that we will no longer have this issue to deal with, the end result has provided us with a clean, safe and accessible road.”
