Thanking local community groups and volunteers

THE Rosewood RSL Sub Branch hosted an afternoon of thanks in the Rosewood Memorial Hall on Saturday to acknowledge the assistance received from local organisations, groups and personal in this year’s Anzac Day service.

RSL President Bernie Mason was joined by Secretary Carmel Luetchford in presenting special certificates of appreciation to all who helped.

Carmel said community spirit was what made commemorative days such as Anzac Day a success, and Rosewood RSL members are extremely grateful to everybody who assisted in many different ways.

Certificates were presented to the Ipswich City Council, the Rosewood Country Women’s Association, the Rosewood Scouts, the Rosewood Rural Fire Brigade, the Rosewood Police, the Rosewood Community Bank, Penni and Shirley Boughen, Michael McKay and Brendan Turner.

The Military Brotherhood Motorcycle Club, JBS Meatworks Dinmore and Wilpak Meat Wholesalers at Wulkuraka where also praised for their contribution.

“Many of these groups contributed by way of donations that went into purchasing food for our gunfire breakfast and morning tea,” Carmel said.

“Council assisted us with a grant so that we could cover the cost of traffic management and for this we are forever grateful,” Carmel said.

“Penni Boughen has held the role as Master of Ceremonies, Shirley Boughen has played traditional songs and hymns on the piano for many years and the Rosewood CWA continue to assist us with making a lovely morning tea that is served after the main service.

“Michael McKay each year plays the Last Post, Brendan Turner constructed a Bain Marie, the Rosewood Scouts assisted with cleaning and setting up the hall and the Rosewood Firies cooked for hundreds of families to provide the traditional gunfire breakfast.”

A morning tea was served to all of the recipients and their families.
