Waters Road in Calvert works promised to begin on Monday

On May 30, the Ipswich City Council are expected to begin an upgrade of Waters Road at Calvert.

The Moreton Border News has covered a long standing protest by residents about the pot-holed state of Waters Road and what they saw as Council’s failure to maintain it to a drivable standard.

“Waters Road has always been an unmaintained road and only recently Ipswich City Council made a decision to add the road to the list of its maintained roads in the area,” said Division 1 Councillor, Sheila Ireland.

And Council has now committed $300,000 to upgrading it from an existing unmaintained, unformed gravel road to a maintained, gravel road standard.

Cr Ireland said work on Waters Road was scheduled for late May despite the recent bad weather.

“Council is constructing an unsealed gravel road to provide a maintained road connection from Kuss Road through to Gipps Street.”

Utilised by families who travel frequently on it to get to and from school, work and services, the works are due to be completed by the end of June 2022.

Works are also taking place in Walloon, with Division 4 Councillor Russell Milligan saying that a dust suppression seal trial is set to take place on Hodgsons Road.

“Council will be completing a trial road surface seal on the existing maintained gravel road at Hodgsons Road,” he said.

“This road has been identified as requiring a seal coat to minimise dust and to reduce maintenance on the gravel road surface.”
