THE last Saturday in May will mark the day, Lynda Stephenson and Carol Cochrane, will put down their scissors, after 30 years of operation at their Proudlocks Hairdressing business in Marburg.

The sisters purchased the business on May 19, 1992.

Lynda was then a qualified hairdresser and Carol was her apprentice.

Together they renovated the building at 92 Edmund Street with their husbands, Keith and Greg, and turned it into their own.

Lynda said from the first day of opening their doors, the salon has always been busy.

“We still have some customers who were with us right from the start, families who have grown with us through all the changes over the years,” Lynda said.

“The Marburg and district community have become like family to us and we have created many styles for anniversaries, formals and weddings for families through the generations.”

Across the three decades, Lynda and Carol have trained 10 apprentices.

Some of them were family members who have enjoyed keeping the family tradition of hairdressing alive.

“Throughout our journey, our family has always supported us, and it has been lovely to have our daughters and nieces work alongside us,” they said.

“We are both now retiring and this is a time of mixed emotions, both excitement and sadness as the last day of operation for us, gets closer.”

To celebrate their success, all past and current customers and their families and friends are invited to celebrate with Lynda and Carol at the Marburg Hotel on Saturday, May 21 at 3pm.

“This will be a happy time with lots of chit chat and sharing of memories and we would love to see you all there to raise a glass with us as we set off on a new journey,” they said.

“And it is lovely that most of our former apprentices will be joining us.”

Proudlocks Hair and Beauty business will continue to operate under new owners.

Meanwhile, the sisters plan to travel and explore new places, starting with three months caravanning to Cairns and Cooktown.

“We want to thank all of our loyal customers and their families and the Marburg community for all of the support and friendships over a wonderful three decades, and we wish everybody all the best into the future,” they said.
