MARBURG has gained a finalist position in the 2022 Queensland Tourism Industry Council Award, in the Top Tiny Tourism Town Award category.
The awards program is aimed at recognising diverse and outstanding destinations in Queensland.
Division 4 Councillor Kate Kunzelmann said Marburg was a deserving finalist through the township’s strong community leadership and because tourism thas been on the increase in recent years.
“Tourism has grown through local family owned and operated businesses working together to lure travellers off the Warrego Highway,” she said.
“It is a town overflowing with incredible and unique experiences.”
Division 4 Councillor Russell Milligan said the Marburg community provided an “amazing visitor experience, with businesses, tourism operators and the local community working together to make their town the best destination it can be”.
“I love that it is a town with quirk, you can borrow a book by throwing a gold coin into a repurposed old outhouse loo.
“Marburg is such a welcoming town where you can always stop for a friendly chat.”
The winners will be announced in May and will then be invited to represent Queensland at the National Awards to have the opportunity to be named Australia’s Top Tourism Town.
