Down on the corner
And out in the street,
After school, that is where we would meet.
We would play cricket until dark,
Sometimes, we would kick a ball in the park.
After dinner, we weren’t bothered by TV or other devices,
There was radio, and freedom instead,
And we did our homework before bed!
How times have changed now.
Sometimes, after school, I would have to chop a load of firewood,
How many boys would do that now?
Or, even know how?
Our minds were occupied with clean fun!
It was never part of our lives,
To harm anyone!
So, what, you may say,
That was then, we now have today!
My reply is, what has been gained by today’s society?
With lack of respect and disrespect
For people and property.
Down on the corner, and out in the street.
Young people, now have a different reason to meet.
