Tanya Johnson: nominee for the 2022 Rosewood Lions Citizen of the Year

TANYA Johnson is known to many as a person who inspires others.

Tanya was a school teacher at Rosewood State Primary School from 1999 to 2019 and during these years she taught the younger grades as well as Human and Social Sciences to students from Prep to Year 6.

During her years as a teacher, she assisted and guided many children with their education as she watched them develop and grow through their individual schooling journey.

Tanya is described as a caring and nurturing teacher who always put her students first, a key teacher in the school, she could always be called on for any assistance with organising events and special activities for the school and its students.

An inspirational leader, Tanya participated in many events within the school, on Anzac Day and Remembrance Day she put together handmade Wreaths and assisted her students with making symbolic artworks to commemorate the fallen.

She also played a key role participating in street parades a proud member of the community she has led her students and the school on many occasions.

Apart from her passion for teaching Tanya is also an active member with the Rosewood Lions, Tanya volunteers her time to assisting the Lions members with their fundraising stalls, special events and meetings.

Utilising her creative flair, Tanya creates special props and costumes for the Lions dress up parties, she is always very welcoming and full of energy and greets everyone with a smile to every occasion.

On her retirement in 2019, Tanya continued to care for and assist in her local community, often making special gifts for the residents in Cabanda.

She initiated the project of the wheelchair access that is now complete at the Rosewood Girl Guides Hut, she approached local Councillors and the Rosewood Community Centre and fought hard for the footpaths to be installed.

Described as a loyal and caring person Tanya is said to be the essence of community spirit and a lady who is always helping others.
