THE Australian Cultural Library held a Farewell to Spring event with a visual art exhibition, live music and a book reading.
The Library’s Treasurer and Secretary Vanessa Glen said the rain held off while attendees were treated to the contemporary exhibition.
“The exhibition consisted of art group The Swamp Collective, and live music by the Toowoomba Folk Club, Kimbeaux Dawson, Vanessa Glenn and Steve Towson,” she said.
“Plates of finger food and drinks were shared during a feature performance by author Gawain Barker reading from his forthcoming novel, The Weight of Love.
“The book is part two of a crime trilogy set in North Queensland.
“With plenty of thrills and laughs the story kept the audience entertained.”
Local politicians were among those invited to the event.
“The Mayor of Ipswich Teresa Harding and Cr Kate Kunzelmann were excited to see the library’s progress, to hear about the association’s activities and to discover some gems in the collection,” Vanessa said.
“The ongoing set up of the library involves activities such as building bookcases to physically house over 50,000 books and tens of thousands of audio and film resources relating to Australian arts and culture.
“Volunteers have also been slowly developing what was once a bitumen carpark into a mini botanical garden.
“While the setup of the premises is still underway, the library’s events are currently invite-only, because there needs to be an amendment made to the property’s usage under council regulations.”
Volunteers hope to open the library two afternoons a week in the New Year.
