Friends forever and ever

FORMER Rosewood resident, Thel Jacobs, is now a resident of Beerwah on the Sunshine Coast and recently reconnected with a long lost school friend through a community group called the Rosewood History Group and Memories.

The Moreton Border News covered the initial story after Thel (nee Coleman) began her search for long lost friend Judy Turner (nee Whitehead) who she had met in school at Rosewood.

The ladies attended Rosewood school together in 1965 and Thel said they shared a very special friendship during their schooling days.

“After reconnecting and talking on the phone, the time arrived where at last Judy was coming to spend a few days here in Beerwah at my place,” Thel said.

“Thinking she might arrive early, I could not relax all morning. I was constantly looking at the driveway waiting for her little red car to arrive.

“Once she arrived, I thought ‘wow we were together again’ and truly, it was just like it was yesterday, as it did not seem to have been 50 years since we had seen each other.

“Well, I really cannot explain just how happy I was as she admired my gardens and my house.”

Thel and Judy spent four days sharing their life stories.

“As we sat on the patio we spoke about our marriages and families and all of the travelling that we had done over the years. We had so much fun reminiscing,” Thel said.

“We caught up with my friends for lunch and drove around the mountains, Maleny, Mapleton and Montville, before finally getting home to a Baileys and a good movie on Netflix.

“On our last night together, Judy received a phone call from her brother David Whitehead and her sister-in-law Kerry.

“She switched the phone onto speaker so I could hear too, it was the same, as if we had all been together for all this time. The last time I saw David was when he was three-years-old.

“The time for Judy to return home had come, it was slightly emotional though I knew we would see each other again soon.

“I feel blessed that we have reconnected once again.”
