Rural Fire Service recognised for their outstanding service

RURAL Fire Service members were recognised for their distinguished service and outstanding contribution to the community at an award presentation held in Hattonvale, recently.

Among the recipients who came from all over South East Queensland was First Officer from the Mount Forbes crew David Clarke who was presented with the Rural Fire Service South Eastern Region Volunteer of the Year Award.

Member for Ipswich West Jim Madden attended to service.

“This incredible group of recipients are a testament to the strong sense of community that exists in rural and regional areas,” Mr Madden said.

“These medal recipients are not only long-standing members of the RFS, but valued members of their communities as well.

“Rural Fire Service members play a vital role in supporting their community in the management of local risk, including responding to grass and bushfires and planning and conducting bushfire hazard reduction activities.

“They also answer the call for help during natural disasters throughout Queensland and interstate.

“Each of the recipients have given extraordinary service that goes above and beyond the normal expectations of their role.

“They do this not for thanks or recognition, but because they are committed to working hand-in-hand with their communities to build resilience.”

The RFS members were presented with National Medals and Clasps, Queensland Fire and Emergency Services Medals and Clasps, Diligent and Ethical Service Medals and Clasps and National Emergency Medals.

QFES Commissioner Greg Leach said the medals represented an important acknowledgement of service.

“This recognition demonstrates the commitment our emergency services staff and volunteers show in working with Queensland communities to keep them safe, and I thank them for their ongoing efforts,” Mr Leach said.

“Across the service, our staff and volunteers come from a range of backgrounds and bring with them a diverse wealth of talents and skill-sets. They often give up time they may otherwise spend with family and friends.

“It’s the dedication and selfless commitment of people like these that enable QFES to provide a service the community can depend on.”
