THE Marburg Black Snake Creek Festival will be a highlight on the calendar this month, with the organising committee promising another “great family event” after the 2020 hiatus due to Covid restrictions.
The Festival is hosted by the Marburg and District Residents Association and this year it is planned for Saturday, September 25.
Funds raised through the 2021 Festival will be used to help complete the work on the ‘green shed’ which is set to become the Marburg Community Centre.
“We need money to ‘fund a dunny and a storage area’,” says committee member, Wendye Gratton.
“We’re planning it as a great family event with a good variety of market stalls, activities for children, entertainment and food stalls.”
One of the perennial features will again be the Art Show.
“It will be open for the week leading up to the day of the Festival,” Wendye said.
And this year the Anglican Church Hall will be hosting a display from the Australian Cultural Library of the Dulcie Mason ball gown collection, along with gloves, hats, stoles and bags.
“An entry fee will be charged to see this wonderful collection and any money raised will also go towards the fund raising for the Community Centre toilet and storage area.
“The display will be officially opened at 10 o’clock on the day of the Festival.”
Festival activities with children in mind include art and craft, games with a ‘dunny’ theme and damper making.
“The local SES will be present and will be supervising the games, as well as recruiting volunteers and taking care of the first aid for the day,” Wendye added.
“The new SES service vehicle will be named in honour of Andy Millar and the storm trailer will honour Beth Suhr. Both have been long time members of the SES.”
Another feature of the day will be the Emergency Services Challenge with SES, Firies and Police competing.
“At the end of the day there will be an auction of the sculptures which have been made from recycled materials.
“Some of the proceeds from the auction will go towards the Community Centre.
“We invite everyone to join us at The Black Snake Creek Festival and see what Marburg has to offer.”
