GRANDCHESTER State School is a small, semi-rural school located near the terminus of the first rail line opened in Queensland.
The momentous event in July 1865 and the school community’s intent is entwined in their motto, Steaming Ahead.
Principal Lorraine Topp said that as a community they celebrate successes and embrace the expectations of students being offered a safe and respectful environment while encouraging students to give their best effort.
“Over the years our school has been lucky enough to have been successful with grant applications through the government and donations from community organisations,” she said.
“These grants and donations have come from the Grandchester Hotel, the Rosewood Bendigo Bank and Inland Rail.
“Due to this we have been able to enhance our supportive learning environment by providing funding towards modernisation of our buildings and furnishings.
“This money has also given us the opportunity to be able to purchase decodable readers, laptops, computers and iPads to bring our school in line with the modern world.
“Our teachers and staff are professional, dedicated and skilled which makes Grandchester State School a great place to be.”
The school curriculum is complemented by extra-curricular activities such as music, sport, camps, technology and whole school enrichment days which keep the students active and engaged.
“A Student Leadership Program that provides our students with the opportunity to support our school and the community is also in place,” she said.
