AN historic memento was recently discovered by Willowbank resident Noela Blake after she came across a Rosewood Register and Marburg Mail newspaper that had been hidden for years in one of her drawers.
The edition dates back to March 20, 1931 and contains items such as McWhirters advertisements, Ruhnos Store news and community notices about the Rosewood Camp Draft and the Rosewood Eisteddfod.
Noela said she came across the newspaper when she was looking through the drawers in one of her cupboards.
“My late husband Robbie must have acquired this paper and put it away without telling me, as I have never seen it before and I have no idea where it would have come from,” she said.
“It is an interesting part of the area’s history.
“When I found it, I was quite taken aback and was interested to see what was in it.”
The paper which is in great condition considering its age has now been stored safely by Noela while she looks into donating it to the Marburg Historical Society as she and her late husband Robbie lived in the town.
“It would mean a lot to me to donate this paper to the Marburg Museum so that they can preserve it for other history enthusiasts to have a look at,” she said.
