Grants to make a huge impact on local schools

THE recent State Budget included a number of wins for Rosewood and district.

The projects included $50,000 for planning for the new Police Station and $1.1 million to complete the replacement of the Auxiliary Fire and Rescue Station.

And major funding was also allocated to a number of Rosewood district schools including Ashwell, Mount Marrow, Rosewood High and Walloon.

Ashwell State School and Mount Marrow schools will each benefit from a new $750,000 amenity building.

Rosewood High was the big winner with an allocation of $2 million for a new building which will include six classrooms, a staff room, two senior student learning spaces as well as a new amenity building.

And a $1.5 million classroom complex will be built at Walloon State School. The new building will be two storey, serviced with a lift as well as an under-croft that can provide space for additional classrooms and outdoor learning spaces.

This funding is in addition to the $200,000 allocated to Walloon in 2020 for a general upgrade of school infrastructure.

Member for Ipswich West, Jim Madden said he has fought hard for extra funding for the Ipswich West schools.

“Ipswich is the fastest growing local government area in Queensland, with its population set to double in the next ten to fifteen years,” he said.

“We need to build now for the school students of the future that inevitably come with this rapid growth.”

Rosewood High Principal Nicole Sherlock said the new two storey building would include six general learning spaces.

“This new building development will add to our recent agricultural ‘build’ in 2019 that supports industry growth needs within our community and future jobs market for our students,” she said.

“Our school is student focused on how industry and job market trends guide our curriculum, this build will support the technology and data space within the world of work and beyond.”

Walloon School Principal Lisa Noonan said it was exciting to see the school receive much needed infrastructure upgrades and improvements.

She added that the new classroom building would “future proof the anticipated growth of our school”.
