THE Standardbred Association Queensland has won a grant worth almost $10,000 to purchase and install a new shade structure.
Ipswich West MP Jim Madden said that he was pleased to find that seven Ipswich West community groups were successful in gaining funding from Round 114 of the Gambling Community Benefit Fund, which included the Standardbred Association.
“The seven groups received a total of $310,817 and I know that each group put a lot of effort into their individual grant applications,” he said.
“I was pleased to act as their referee with these applications and I know that these groups will put the money that they received from the State Government to good use.”
The Standardbred Association focuses on rehoming Standardbred horses at the Marburg showgrounds where their facilities are located.
Retraining and rehoming horses is the association’s primary focus and over the past 20 years members have assisted in giving more than 1,500 horses a new purpose in life.
Horse Placement Officer Melissa Bell said that the association was extremely happy and grateful to have been successful in receiving the grant.
“Without the grant the group would not have been able to improve our facilities [at the showgrounds].
“We are going to use the money to purchase a new shade cover which will measure four metres by six metres to cover our existing equipment,” she said.
“This will be installed after the Christmas period to provide shelter and protection to our show jumping and trailer equipment.”
