THE 2023 fishing year got off to a cracking start with an overnight stay at Leslie Dam near Warwick for the Rosewood Amateur Fishing Club.
Club member Judy Litfin said the competition was the first freshwater trip for the year and was well attended in spite of daytime temperatures that reached up to 40 degrees.
“Daren Henderson was up to his usual form, coming first with, five jew, one silver perch and seven yellow belly weighing 10.67 kilograms earning him 129.7 points,” she said.
“Second place went to Ken Slater with a catch of one jew and five yellow belly, which included a huge catch of 3.235 kilograms, his total catch weighed 6.02 kilograms for 70.1 points.
“Graham Topping claimed third place reeling in five yellow belly weighing 3.9 kilograms starting the year with 54 points.”
The catch and release ethos was praised by Judy.
“It was encouraging to see a large number of small jew caught and released, as their numbers had been severely affected by really low dam levels from 2021.”
